Our Story

About Speed Test

We believe everyone deserves to know the true performance of their internet connection – instantly, accurately, and for free.

Who We Are

Speed Test is a free online internet speed testing service built for everyday users, IT professionals, and network engineers alike. Our mission is simple: give anyone on the planet an accurate, no-nonsense measurement of their broadband connection in seconds – without sign-ups, downloads, or hidden costs.

Founded by a team of network engineers and web developers, Speed Test was created out of frustration with inaccurate, ad-heavy, and slow speed testing tools. We set out to build something better: a blazing-fast tool that respects your time and privacy.

Our Technology

Speed Test uses a multi-server, multi-threaded testing methodology that mimics how real applications consume your bandwidth. Unlike single-connection tests that under-report your true speed, our system saturates your connection with multiple parallel streams to find your actual maximum throughput.

Key technical features include:

  • Multi-threaded download and upload testing for accurate peak speed measurement
  • Real-time latency (ping) measurement with 5-sample averaging
  • Jitter calculation to assess connection consistency
  • Geolocation-based server selection for minimal test overhead
  • No Flash, no Java, no App – pure HTML5 and modern JavaScript

Our Commitment to Privacy

We take your privacy seriously. Speed Test does not collect personally identifiable information during speed tests. Aggregate, anonymised speed data may be used to compile statistics about global broadband performance. We never sell individual user data to third parties. Please read our Privacy Policy for full details.

Advertising Policy

Speed Test is supported by display advertising, including Google AdSense. All advertisements are clearly labelled and comply with Google AdSense program policies. We do not display ads for illegal products, adult content, or deceptive services. Our editorial content is completely independent of our advertising relationships.
